Staircase renovation in Brighton & Hove.
New spindles, handrails and newel posts, re-cladding worn treads and fixing creaks — giving the first thing people see in your hallway the finish it deserves.
About this service
Staircase renovation, done properly.
The staircase is usually the first thing you see when you walk through the front door, and in a lot of older houses it's tired: painted-over spindles, loose handrails, creaking treads and dated newel posts.
Renovating a staircase rather than replacing it keeps the structure and transforms the look. We replace balustrades — spindles, handrails, base rails and newel posts — repair or re-clad treads and risers, and fix the creaks and movement while we're there.
Doing the hallway too? We can take care of the flooring, doors, skirting and decorating in the same job.
Spindles & balustrades
Old spindles out, new ones in — timber, square, turned or modern styles.
Handrails & newel posts
New handrails, base rails and newel posts, fixed solid.
Tread & riser re-cladding
Worn or carpeted stairs re-clad in hardwood for an open, finished look.
Creaks & repairs
Loose treads and creaking stairs secured from beneath where access allows.

“I had to pass on a decking job recently because I was extremely busy. I trusted Capstone to take it on. They smashed it. Proper tidy work. The client was buzzing, no messing about. It's refreshing having another company you can genuinely rely on when you're overloaded. I'd confidently recommend them to anyone. It's a 10/10 from me.”
Questions
Staircase renovation: common questions.
How much does a staircase renovation cost?
It depends on how much of the staircase is being replaced — spindles only, a full balustrade, or treads and risers as well — and the timber and style you choose. We'll give you a fixed, written quote after seeing it.
Can you just replace the spindles?
Yes. Replacing spindles and the handrail is one of the most effective ways to update a staircase.
Can you fix creaking stairs?
In most cases, yes. Creaks usually come from treads that have worked loose, and they can often be secured from beneath.
Do you need to replace the whole staircase?
Usually not. Renovating keeps the structure and costs far less than a replacement, unless the staircase itself is failing.
